Production Poem

Nerves, Butterflies.
Feeling uncomfortable.
Having fun but beginning to feel comfortable.
Bouncing to the beat.
And feeling the ground vibrate beneath my feet.
Smiling and shining like a star.
I’m starting to feel great so far.
Dancing to the music feeling the rhythm.
Doing the actions that I was given.

2018 Mysteeq's Own Report

Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. Quote by George Bernard Shaw.

During this year I think I did well In Netball by showing up to as much training as possible so I can improve my fitness and get better at the game. The thing I liked about netball was being able to play with my friends and have fun.

Some of the sports tournaments I have participated in during this year were flag, netball and soon to come Ki o rahi. I chose to participate in these tournaments because it was a part of my passion. I love trying out new sports or sports that I know I like.

I have many strengths, but the one that I think helps me the most is my strengths in maths. In maths, I am good at solving problems, helping others and asking questions when I don’t know what is going on. The hardest thing for me in maths is staying focused because sometimes I get distracted and then I’m off task which is something I want to work on.

The key competency skill I use to support my learning is managing self. I am able to manage myself when I don't know what to do or when others are distracting me. For example; I move to a place where I can stay focused.

This Year I have participated in Kapa Haka, Polyclub, and Languages. In Kapa Haka, I was good at being disciplined and making sure I was doing the right thing. In Polyclub, I was good at taking more risks and stepping out of my comfort zone by dancing harder and showing everyone what I got.

I helped to make my classroom a safe and fun quality environment by controlling my anger when other people say rude comments towards me. Instead, I turned the other cheek and kept focus on what I was doing.

The genre I like to read is comedy books because I like it when I can just sit back and relax while laughing at a funny book. I use the library as a place to just explore and look for some cool books to read and have fun to choose books that I like. When it’s silent and quiet I feel relaxed and happy because it’s just a time to go to another world.

Next year I would like to participate in more jobs and open myself up to more opportunities. I would like to be a leader and step up and show the little ones how to become a leader. I also would like to help the younger ones be what they want when they're a year 8.

Kapa haka learning story

Actions are bigger than words.

Every Thursday Morning some of our school go down to the hall to do Kapa haka and we meet with our tutor by the name of Matua Tod. We think kapa haka is important because we are carrying on the Maori tradition and we are sharing the culture through kapa haka.

In Kapa Haka, I shine through many things but the one thing I think I am good at the most is being loud and proud. When we are singing a song I try to be as loud and proud at the same time because if you combined those two then you will be the best Kapa Haka performer ever.

The thing I struggle with the most is keeping my Pukana on because if we are doing a haka and it's too long my eyes start to hurt and my face starts to turn red.

My next steps are to always lock and load all the actions and transitions because sometimes I can completely go blank in my head and forget everything, for example, if we are doing a song that has transitions in it I feel nervous because I don’t know what to do.

The thing I would like to do next year is step up and be a leader and become a role model for the younger ones and show them what to do and how to do it.

Mysteeq’s Languages Learning Story

In Samoan language, we were learning how to say some sentences and how to pronounce words correctly. We learnt these things by reading books and doing quizzes.

To me, the Samoan culture is special to me because It’s my culture and we should always cherish every culture and treat them all the same. Just because I’m Samoan doesn't mean I don’t like other cultures.

In samoan language I am good listening to my teacher named Sia and following her instructions, for example when she asks me to do something I can do it without fussing, getting angry. I am also good at not being shy when she tells me to say a sentence.

My next steps are to not care about anyone around me and just do what I want and do what I love. Also, I would like to be more confident in speaking the language.

Stuck In a bottle

Stuck in a bottle in the middle of nowhere and starving to death.

Omg where am I,how did I get here?,who was involved with this? Ohh how dare they do that to me. It was my friends, they must have put me into the bottle, pushed me into  the ocean while I was asleep. How can I get out of this?. I have nothing to do,nothing to drink, and nothing to eat.I can see the sand right in front of my eyes but the bottle is too small to recognize.

Wait a minute is that people I see, I better try get out and see if they can hear me. Ok here we go. Omg I’m stuck I’m stuck.OWW I have no way of getting out of here I’m gonna be in here forever and ever.I don’t know what im gonna do here:1st I’m gonna try stay live,2nd I’m gonna entertain myself and 3rd i’m obviously gonna die.

Ohh been in here for three days straight and I’m   struggling to stay alive. Is that someone I see coming towards me. This is my one chance to try and get them to notice me or  I’ll die.Ok here we go “Hello help me please help me I’m starving to death and I need some food and drinks.

“Wait a minute can I hear something” he’s talking and I think he’s saying “Is something in that bottle”. “Help please im in the bottle”. “Ok this is freaking me out I’m gonna see if anything is in the bottle”. WOAH it’s moving the bottle is moving he’s picking me up. “Hello” “Hi can you please get me out of this bottle I really need to get out” “okay listen to me and follow my instruction and you will be ok” “okay” “so when I put the bottle upside down put your feet on the bottle top, then i’m gonna take the bottle top off and im gonna shake the bottle and you are gonna fall out in to my hands okay” “ok”.

Yay!! Im free,im free, thank you very much you are a lifesaver. “Okay now can you take me to eat, I’m
 starving”? “UMM okay”.

If you get stuck in a bottle always know that someone will save you eventually. So don’t be scared.

Mysteeq’s  Reflection
I think I was good at choosing the correct languages for my writing and not doing street talk, but using the appropriate language that suits the character.

Something I think I need to work on is making sure my punctuation is in the right spot so it’s not confusing for my reader.

Mysteeq’s Maths Learning Story

The problem is about how many milk cartons can Sam and Allister fit in the green container. They wanted to save time by carrying more milk at a time, but they didn't know how much milk they could fit in the container

We were trying to find out how much milk can fit in the container/what’s the volume.

First I used my prior knowledge and I multiplied the width by the length by the height: 3x4.5 x 10=135cm because we wanted to find the volume of each milk carton.

Then I multiplied the width, length, height of the green container: 33x33x28cm but that was to hard so we took away the 3,3,8 to make the numbers all even so we made it 30x30x20 but it was too hard to figure out,it didn't work so I just stuck with 33x33x28 and I found out that the answer was 30,492cm.

After that we divided 30,492 by 135 we got 225.
We did that because we had to find out how much 135s are in 30,492.

So we worked out that 225 milk cartons can fit in the green container.

When I was in my group I was good at asking questions when I didn’t know what was going on and when I didn’t understand.

The K.C skill I used while doing maths was participating and contributing because I was always on the waka and sharing my ideas even if they weren't going to be right.

In maths I think I need to work on trying to agree and disagree with others because when we have one idea we don’t talk about it as a group, we just act on it.

Eva’s Feedback: During maths I think you do well in taking risks and sharing your ideas even if it might be wrong. Something I think you need to work on is agreeing and disagreeing because instead of just going with it, trying to understand it more, by asking questions to understand their thinking.

Mysteeq’s Marae Learning Story.

Have you ever slept at the marae before? Because I have.

At the marae I liked how everyone had time to spend time with their friends and to meet new people you never actually talk to before.

It was hard when we had to find the right bed  to sleep in because you didn’t want to sleep next to someone who you will talk to because you might get in trouble.

My next steps at the marae was to take a risk and not be shy and say my pepeha. Also I should be responsible for bringing my pepeha to the marae and not forgetting.

At the marae I used the key competency of managing self by not getting in trouble following instructions so that I didn’t get sent back to school.

At the marae the activities we did was making stars, minecraft, making books, making pouches, and making matariki lanterns.

My favourite group was the matariki lanterns because it was challenging and that was when I could step up and help the little ones with the parts that was hard.

Mysteeq Technology Learning Story

Mysteeq Technology Learning Story

Every Thursday at lunchtime Room Aroha Tuakana 10,11, and 12 go to Brandon Intermediate for technology.

At technology, we are trying to find out our passion in different rooms such as cooking, music, art, hard materials, soft materials (sewing).

The class I am currently in is music. We have been trying to figure out what type of style a certain song is, who the original artist is, and what instruments are in the song.

In music, it was hard trying to learn the chords to our song on piano (All of me) because there were 4 chords for me to learn. The chords were all different and I had to put all of the chords together to make the tune to the song we were performing.

Throughout music class, the key comps I have been using to be the best I can is relating to others by being able to work with anyone and everyone. For example, I'm in a group of girls that I've never worked with before and I’m cool with it because I still carry the Corinna way with me wherever I go.

In music, my next steps are to play a different kind of instrument for e.g Play the bass because I have never experienced playing a bass to a song before and I could have a go at it and see if I am good or not or if I just need some practice.

I love technology because I get to experience something new!! Do you?
